Vermeil (Hard gold plating over Sterling silver) is a fine layer of pure gold on top of Silver base, therefore the gold plating will wear and need to be re-dipped over time, depending on how often you wear it this could be months or years.
Can also be made in solid gold for those who do not want to have any upkeep.
